I currently have my car advertised for sale on PistonHeads.

This evening I received two text messages, to the number used in the advert, saying:

PistonHeads-Important notice!Your posting has been reported as fraud. To avoid blacklisting your vehicle and blocking your account we request proof of identity!
PistonHeads:Please send the scanned copies of the full V5 document, last 2 pages of service book and the keeper's ID at: pistonheads@anti-fraud.co.uk Thank you!

The sending number shows as “+447786200161”.

All the indications suggest to me that this is an attempt at fraud, but an internet search does not find either this text or the telephone number, so it may be new.

I have (obviously) not responded to the message.

Is this some sort of logbook loan scam? Would that be enough info to take out a loan against the car?

Unlikely, but it would give them additional material to enable them to perpetuate their scam on unsuspecting people.

I.E. someone asks for proof of service history and V5 number to make their own checks......Scammer sends copies of what you sent them. Makes it easier for them to scam others.
