Trickle charger
Discussion
Having some issues at the moment with a 996 battery and alarm system. The car gets used about every 7-10 days, and this morning I have had to have Porsche Assistance out as the car wouldn't start, alarm kept going off and it seemed to be immobilised. Is once every 10 days not enough to keep a good charge?
Porsche said they will sell me a trickle charger for £50 - presumably this plugs into the cigarette lighter? If so, there will be a lead coming out of the window of the car - so how do you lock it?
cheers

The Porsche ones connect to either the cigar lighter or the battery terminals. And the little black cable will cope with being shut in the door seal or under the hood, so you can lock and alarm the car as normal.
£40 quid well spent and it just tops up the battery charge and doesn`t draw power if it doesn`t need it!

Strange how cars vary. I used to leave my 993 turbo up to 5 weeks with the alarm enabled and the car unlocks and starts as normal. You notice the engine doesn't turn over as quickly but other than that it gives no problems.
However, I now I use a trickle charger when the car is in the garage and the battery is like new every time I use the car.

This is what I do with mine. Plugs into the cigarette lighter socket - starts on the button even after a month.
