I'm trying to decide which oil filter to use on my 400SE. I have searched the forums and there are a lot of threads on this but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer. Every time I think I've tracked down the correct number, I find a thread that suggests a different filter. So far the recommendations seem to be:

Mann 930/20 or 932/81 or 940/24 (surely they can't all be right?)

Mahle OC261 or OC132 (different lengths)

Some people were using a filter from V8Filters.co.uk but he doesn't seem to be around anymore. I think this might be the same filter as Fleetguard LF701 which is on ebay and listed as suitable for a TVR. Has anyone used these?

Any help on this would be appreciated. I'm confused.

Hi Leslie.

You can still buy the original unapt oil filter....GFE 295
https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=...
I would buy a couple...These are normally hard to find.

There are other filters that people use and I'm sure some 400SE owners will be able to advise...

Cheers

I have just changed mine for the Mahle type but ordered the shorter version, can,t remember what type I will look later but all it means is less cleaning capacity so next year I will fit the taller one, so get the taller one as it will have more cleaning capacity that is the only difference

I usually use FRAM. Looked at the Fleetguard ones and they filter down to 30 micron. This seems like a paper one therefore, rather then the glass fibre one that filters down to 10 microns.

If the v8 filters guy is out of business you'll have to ask Cummins if they can supply to the same specification.

Always used Fram PH2821A on the TVR, and Mahle OC261 on the Range Rover (4.0V8)

I have always used Mahle OC132 and it has served me well, but for my next service I have bought a Fram to try as recommended by Adam. The Fram filter is longer in length and so will hold more oil and I think the filter itself may be more refined. However, the Mahle filter is cheaper and easier to find. I'll compare the two once fitted and decide what to use in future.

You can get an OE Land Rover filter at your local main dealer; about £12.00. Ask for a Range Rover Classic 3.9 filter otherwise the poor lad's brain will seize up laugh

FRAM ones are only 4 to 6 quid - if you shop around. I usually buy 3 or 4 at a time to amortise the postage costs. Marine chandlers are usually a good source at near trade prices because they are used on Perkins as well.

Hmm it seems prices have been going up since 2014 - when I bought 3 for 14 quid.

Now over seven quid each.

Also according to Amazon: This does not fit your: TVR 400 Convertible 3.9

Hah! what do they know....
