Judder under braking

I have found that after some 'spirited' driving, there is some significant judder through the steering wheel under very firm braking. Braking gently has no such effect (even when the discs are hot), so does not suggest to me warped discs, as (I assume) I would have expected to feel some increased braking effect in time with the wheel rotation.
The car is not used everyday, so I was wondering whether this is problem likely to improve with more frequent use - maybe once the discs are 'cleaned-up' or pads de-glazed?
Wishbone bushes were replaced about 3,000 miles ago, and all pads have plenty of meat on them.
Any ideas ?

Could be pad/disc related (search for the warped disc myth), a worn ball joint can definitely cause judder under heavy braking, I suspect that play pretty much anyway in the steering / front suspension could too.

Thanks Peter, a ball joint was replaced during a service about 3,000 miles ago together with some bushes when the garage was searching for an intermittent clonk from the suspension - so I would have expected that had anything else been suspect, that it would have been replaced at that time.

Just read zour commet, have the same thing on my Griff... I just put it down to bad pads... after changing them to Ferodo type problem ceased..
