Anyone know any good places to go around Heathrow to get pictures of the planes taking off or landing?????

just make sure you are somewhere perfectly legal and ideally amongst fellow plane-spotters. the police around heathrow are - for obvious reasons - extremely vigilant nowadays and you may suddenly find yourself surrounded by guys in bullet proof waistcoats, wielding machine guns!

Hatton Cross isn't bad.

There used to be a petrol garage on the southern perimeter road near the M25 end. That is now closed.


You can park at a nearby pub, though you may have to walk.

Also bear in mind they swap runways at 3pm.

These were taken a couple of weeks ago using a Canon 300D with a 100-400 L IS lens.

Just shows how out of date I am, how long has the Queens Building viewing area been closed? presumably this was as a result of 9/11?

I was spotting up there through the seventies and early eighties if my young memory serves me.Must of closed later than that.

I think it was closed around 911 time.

I think the rumour for keeping it closed is that it hasn't got disabled access
