Currently have 7.5J 17" 50X100 ET41 on my Polo Gti but wondering what is a good option for some trackday wheels as im not very clued up on VAG wheels to be honest! Preferably light as possible but ideally just not heavy!

Team dynamics 1.2. Classic track wheels. Lightish and cheapish

Yeah that's my choice if I'm buying new. Was wondering if there were any wheels from other VAG cars that might be suitable (and maybe a bit cheaper)

Shame the ProRace 1 isn't available any more. They were 7Kg in 7x17 size, looked better and had much better caliper clearance. ProRace 1.2 is slightly heavier at 7.8kg, but you won't get much lighter for the money imo.

I got all excited and realised that was price per wheel. Last set of wheels track wheels I bought were £80 off ebay from a Megane that went on a clio 172 so maybe my expectations are a bit high lol

Speedline Marmora- 7.5x17, ET35 and 5x100.

Pushing the boat out a bit more, you could look at something like the Neuspeed RSe05. They've discontinued the RSe05 in 5x100 17x8, but they still crop up occasionally. 7.2kg a wheel, but £200+ a corner (if you can find them)

I'd be inclined to look on some of the sites which specialise in selling actual track wheel, like racecarsdirect, or at a push eBay, for proper lightweight motorsport stuff.

With the ET number is it the lower the number the more they stuck out from the hub?

Yep.

Google scrub radius. Spacers and different offsets both affect it.

I've been looking at light weight 17" track wheels for my A3 (8l) for some time, and just purchased a set of Rota G Force, 17x8 ET35, which is ideal for the A3. (In bronze as well, which excites me a little!)

With the polo off-set being slightly more limp-wristed, you could look at Subaru Impreza (or after market for Impreza) alloys which are generally closer to ET45. I couldn't comment on the ideal width/offset for a polo, but maybe consider running a small (5mm) spacer with them. It was really frustrating for me when a nice set of light weight 5x100 alloys cropped up in Subaru offset! Sounds like it could be better suited for the polo though...

Just be wary that the Subaru center bore is 56.1mm, where as the VAG center bore is 57.1mm. So if you're looking at a set of genuine Subaru alloys, they might not fit without getting the center bore modified, any good machine shop should be able to do that fairly cheaply though. Most aftermarket alloys will generally go for a larger center bore, in which case you'd require the correct spigot rings.

In terms of light weight VAG wheels, there aren't many options!.. Most the standard wheels are made by Ronal and as a result weigh an absolute ton! The TT Comps are the only light weight VAG alloys in 5x100 that I know of, pretty sure they're 7.5J ET32, so if you have room under the arches for an extra 10mm of poke they could be a good option. Always nice to keep things OEM as well!

Just had a quick look for a few examples you could be considering...

Would want to space these out a little:

These less so as they're 8J, ET48 on 8J will have 1mm less poke that ET41 on 7.5J:

This one admittedly just one wheel and 18".. But as an example, width PCD and offset could be ideal. ET43 on 8J giving you 4mm more poke than you have at the moment:

Anyway, just some examples... Lots of other Japanese aftermarket manufactures making light weight wheels in 5x100 also, the names of which escape me for the moment but hopefully this expands your horizons a little!

I'm not fussed about looks so much. The standard alloys on most cars always tend to sit in away from the arches anyway. Will keep looking for now or maybe I will just bite the bullet and get a set of TD's
