Thinking of buying an R171 SLK - spec / upgrade question
Discussion
Hi All
As the title says I'm thinking of buying a second generation SLK, but it's unlikely that I'll find a car in exactly the spec I'm looking for. What I'm looking for is a 200K auto with 16" wheels, light interior, airscarf, park sensors and Xenons. As there unlikely to be a car meeting my ideal requirements, how difficult would it be to add Xenons or airscarf to a car?
Thanks
Todd

Todd, there are threads on the MB forums referring to early/regular failure of timing chains in the 200 engine powered SLKs, will try and link for youAs the title says I'm thinking of buying a second generation SLK, but it's unlikely that I'll find a car in exactly the spec I'm looking for. Thanks for the links, they are exactly what I was looking for, should have known someone would have asked the question before. I almost missed your post as I absorbed the news about engines.Airscarf .............http://www.slkworld.com/general-modifications-r171/95353-airscarf-retrofit.html

Thanke for that (I think) very interesting to know. This seems to me mostly the early spec of engine, I wonder whether the upgraded engine in the post 2008, post facelift, cars is also effected.P
Unfortunatly the current daily driver is a 2015 W204 220 diesel, mentioned in your last post. So I suppose in some ways I wouldn't be in a worst position for engine reliability.
Well I managed to get most of the spec 16" wheels, xenons and park sensors. Bit of an unusual spec as it's got cloth seats, can't imagine there were many without leather and it saves needing heated seats. Plus it's grey, exactly the colour I would have chosen.
I'm pleasantly surprised how much space the boot has and the fuel tank size, I managed over 500 miles before bottling it and filling up.
