I've driven past a compound which normally has diggers and tools in near Reading train station a few times and noticed these strange looking things, I managed to time it right and pulled up next to it to take a picture

What the hell are they? I was thinking some kind of security solution to tell if anyone is walking around inside the locked compound, does anyone have any ideas?

Given the police style checkerboard paintjob id assume some kind of security/monitoring device yes.

Im not seeing any cables to them, so im guessing battery powered + wireless link to the monitoring post.

Makes me wonder how hard it would be to nick one of these hehe

Immediately recognised those as I only drove passed them last week. We came to the conclusion they are there as a security system for the wire fencing compound, we assume they are configured to photo/film anything that comes close to the fencing and probably start beeping/flashing and calling police at the same time! smile

As above, we also wondered how easy it would be to nick them! laugh

It's an ED 208.

The ED 209 is slightly more advanced & extreme but the software was a bit flakey.
