Mine arrived a couple of weeks ago whilst I was in France so the wife has been running it in , I've only been out in it this morning for half an hour but I think it's great , quick , makes a great noise in sport plus , gearbox seems better than the road testers would have you believe and it feels great on the road , mind you , I did drive 850 miles yesterday in my 340i touring loaded to the max from France !
The pics will probably be upside down but I don't know how to post them properly so no down force , Southern Hemisphere jokes , I've already heard them all on z4 forum , and they are pretty poor .

Why post the pic if you knew it would be upside down

Because I'm no good with tech stuff , they always appear to be the correct way up when I preview them . Please don't try to explain how to sort it out , I wouldn't understand as I'm not interested in the tech world , and I'm not trying to be rude there .

I have an R172 SLK 350 which I think is great and would definitely be tempted by one of those come replacement time...
My only concern is whether it would be 'different enough' - would I wonder why I had bothered to swap?. Its more powerful, but is turbo charged so would be an interesting comparison.
Enjoy...

I nearly bought a 350 a while back , test drove a few and I was impressed , a lot better than any road tester journalist would have you believe .
The difference between this and a 350 is quite a lot , gearbox and turbos make for a completely different car , I think it's a great little car and a relative bargain , which will only get better value for money in the used market .

Have they improved the steering? My wife has a 350SLK and it always seems vague and somehow disconnected. I've driven a few 172s and they've all felt the same.
And is the 9 speed more responsive than the 7? It seems to change when it wants to regardless of when and how many times you flick the pedals.

Its no Boxster, granted... but for what I and Mrs Timbo use it for its great. Very smooth and sophisticated, quite fast and makes a nice noise. Second hand at a year old it was a bargain at near enough £22k below list price. Gulp! And is the 9 speed more responsive than the 7? Funny, I saw one of these in MBW. I prefer the front to the 55, but the back just doesn't have the same presence without the big diffuser and more obvious quad pipes. I really need to test drive one of these. Without the big V8 though I think I would be tempted by the SL63 next time unless the nextgen SLC is a bigger upgrade.
