Just noticed that this classic 1969 documentary, featuring archive footage of The Manchester- Sheffield-Wath (Woodhead) line has been uploaded to You tube.
I remember watching it on TV at the time.
I was fortunate to travel this high level route several times before closure, this film is certainly well worth a watch for the trans Pennine rail enthusiast...

I only used the line once, on 3rd September 1966, the weekend when the rest of the Great Central south of Sheffield Victoria closed (except for the bit between Rugby and Nottingham that lasted another three years).
