Toyo 0 - Wheelarch 1

Had some new T1-Ss fitted to the rear of the Chim last weekend (245/45/16) replacing worn S02s. Nearside is fouling the wheelarch when not on a smooth bit of road. Took car back to garage - we will try some Bridgestone S03s in the morning. Any thoughts.

Is having Toyo's on the front and Bridgestone on the back going to 'upset' the car???

Hi Alex, Although I am running on 17inch khan's all round at the mo(see profile), the original wheels have Bridgestones on the back and Toyo's on the front and drive okay.

Thats a bit weird, if the Toyo is the same size as the BS then why should there be any interference? Although different makes of tyre may have marginal differences in overall size they should (have) to conform to the basic dimensions within a small tolerance. The only other variable I can think of would be the presence of a rim-protector-bar, available on some tyres which could concievably cause clearance probs in the wheelarch.
Are you sure theres no problem with the suspension, worn bushes etc, allowing the wheel to move laterally ?? If the old tyre was pretty worn on the shoulder then such problems could be masked and only appear with a fresh tyre and deep tread, change in clearance could amount to 6-8mm depending on the state of the old tyre.
I'm also assuming its on standard wheels etc.

Running on standard wheels, serviced in Dec, and just passed 1st MOT - no suspension problems mentioned. The Toyo's do 'look' fatter - if you get my drift.Luckily there was a Cerb at the garage with SO2s we could take measurements from, seems the Toyo is a bit taller!
Rim protectors?? the toyo's do seem to stick out past the rim compared to how I remember the S02s - but it's only rubbing on the nearside
Chim has done 19k miles, (and I drive like I have miss Daisy onboard) could bushes etc be worn out??

I think the fact it is only fouling on one side might be a bit of a clue - some sort of car problem.

I've got the same tyres on the back of mine and I havn't noticed a problem.

S03s did the same, may have to drop to a 40 profile. Will some TVR garages on Monday, see what they say.

I think that you're chasing your tail there. It sounds like your springs have sagged. Springs are cheap; fit some new ones; maybe taller and stiffer as well?

Is the car level?

Doesn't look lop sided, and they measured from rim to wheelarch on both sides - only a couple of mm difference. The S02's have about 2mm left on the outer edge.

Not my cup of tea Gareth,i'm just trying to kill time waiting for the beast.Rumour has it we saved a parking space for you next to the bins at BBWF,unless you get the wedge finished in time

Hope you get it sorted, do you have the standard shocks/springs fitted? If its been upgraded to say nitrons or similar these may have a ride height adjustment.

Its OK I've had some seac stickers made up, I guess I'll be parking next to you then. Obviously I'll disable the alarm first, don't want to get a flat battery. Really looking forward to it though. We don't have a chimaera event aparently (except at the local golf club).

Absolutely, IMHO you need to check out the suspension /chassis thoroughly before looking at ways to compensate for the clearance issue otherwise you may miss something important. If the wheels-tyres should fit , then they should fit!

Agree totally, will be on the phone first thing to a few places. Just wondered if anyone had come across this before.

Ps, everything on the car is standard, and there is about 1.5 - 2mm left on the S02s in the area thats causing the trouble.
