Naval Action... Anyone got it?
Discussion
I have it. I bought it when it first went into early access and I enjoyed it for a while playing as the British but I got a bit bored of it and left it for a while. I did log in every day for a few weeks just to increase my crafting levels. There wasnt much content or stuff to do after a while although it is a pretty unique idea for a game and looks great.
Funnily enough I downloaded it again yesterday and restarted it. The game is pretty much the same but there's loads more ships now and more to do now although its still not a finished game yet. I actually had more fun yesterday than my previous stint playing as the British as this time I started as a pirate. Without having to worry about allies and NAPs it was a good laugh. We took down a players trade boat. Another player joined me in battle while I was attacking another trader probably thinking it was a pirate ai boat. He had a similar level boat but when my long nine pounders started going through both sides of his ship he sailed off. His boat was too quick for me to catch so I called him a pussy. I also got caught leaving port by a couple of bigger British player ships so I pussied out and sailed for pirate waters. I got into a couple of port battles to and had much more fun than before.
I play with a friend on my teamspeak server so we have a laugh and help each other out, we both joined a big British clan last time as well. I would probably get a bit bored of it playing on my own. Its a fairly slow paced game so it does attract more older gamers which is fun. In the British clan the oldest guy was in his sixties or seventies and the youngest was around 25 with most people being somewhere in the middle.
I can sail mid ranked ships as I have been avoiding the grind which I found boring before. In the British clan they spent a lot of time grinding out battles against the ai which I quickly got bored of. Now I just take my time and am enjoying a lot more. I enjoyed it yesterday so I am going to give the game another go for a while which surprised me but its down to being a pirate this time around.

I can't remember how the Dutch are doing but their starting position can mean they get hemmed in right in the corner of the map. The Americans are doing better and are next to pirate territory, they hold Florida and some of the islands south from there. The Brits start in the middle of the map but have expanded in to a lot of the USA, Mexico and south America. The British faction seems to be the most popular one even though every nation uses the same ships.
If you get the game I am on EU1 PVP and as Captain Derek Withers, and I can make you some free boats when you need them.

Been a while since I played it, but found it a bit repetitive. Go out, do a mission, go back to port, repeat. Occasionally fight another player if you stumble across one. Getting involved in battles for contested ports never happened for me, as I hadn't progressed into a ship that was powerful enough to take part without handicapping my team.
Obviously I can't comment on it's latest incarnation, so it may have changed some since I played it last, but reading the comments above it doesn't sound like it's changed much.

Hi Derek
The game is still fundamentally the same but being a pirate is way more fun than being one of the nations. We joined a pirate clan last night who seem a good bunch, I got set on fire and exploded taking out a team mate and he just laughed his head off. I will probably get bored of it again and go back to Arma3 Wasteland but it's quite fun at the moment.

I'm still finding it fun, its not that much different than before but the improvements are good. Being a pirate is ace, we don't bother getting xp from ai fleets or missions, we just sail down to jamaica in fast boats and attack the Brits. You can get huge amounts of xp and gold from pvp battles. I got over 1100 xp from one battle yesterday and we have ganked some poor sod in his Trincomalee two days in a row.
Got this but not had much of a chance to play it yet. Wife away for a week so might get some time to play now
Joined the yanks on EU PVP(I think) as I like their color scheme
But am waaay up north in the Carolinas.
Tried 1st PvE mission last night, couldn't hit a barn door from the side with my guns
And not so much a learning curve as a vertical cliff face...I will be spending a lot of time watching YouTube bids I suspect.
Was going to name myself after the great admiral Jones as Capt John Paul Georgenringo, but went with the epitome of wet eyed chinless wonder names: The Hon Bryce StJohn DeWitt....please don't kill me
