Missus chirps up last night while browsing faceache on the sofa that a friend is selling some old consoles, was I interested, the default answer was of course "yes, how much?" anyway its a good haul I think and a price was settled, I pick them up tomorrow

Thats four consoles, three of them still have the original boxes. Also comes with a ton of games. A selection below:

I'd count the Atari as a console. That was the first video game I ever had, fond memories of a Christmas day spent playing Space Invaders.
Similar progression to many folk around that era, I had the Atari, then a Spectrum 48k(!), Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga A500, then back to consoles - Megadrive, SNES, GameGear and Dreamcast, before entering the modern age with a PlayStation

I can't go back as you guys but I still have my PSX in working order and still occasionally get it out of hiding to play GT or Crash Bandicoot among many others.
I've been wondering what people mean by a PSX, so I googled it.This thread came up.

Do you really mean a standard Playstation 1 or that special dvd recording ps2 thing which is supposedly what a real PSX is?

crazy that 3/4 of the s
t you throw away as a 20something you end up buying back in your 30's
I can confirm this as i have recently bought, Casio HT-3000 (this was actually cheap, £26!), 2 x Sinclair Spectrum 48k original, rubber keyboard types and an AKAI S3000XL which was also somewhat of a bargain at £40.
i can also confirm 100% of the purchases were drink related.

Interesting!
It seems all a bit vague. I called the original one a Playstation 1, then it upgraded to the much bigger newer black one which was more powerful, Playstation 2 and then it went up to a Playstation 3 (flat, slim, ultra thin).
I wasn't really aware of any other models.
I've not gone really retro but I watch folk playing ZX Spectrum game play throughs. Ones that I just couldn't complete as a kid and it's interesting to see how it is done.
I have built up a big playstation 3 collection but nothing older.

No idea to be honest RW! The way that I was told it and therefore in my mind the PSX was the grey slab, and the PS1 was the white mid life lift.
The original model was the Playstation, the smaller whiter one was the Playstation One, PSX was one of the terms for the prototypes that still crops up now and againTommoAE86 said:

You are correct the PSX is the original Playstation. When they made the smaller one after the PS2 came out they rebranded it as the PSOne. The PS2 with the hard drive bay was just a model update it didn't have a different name.I think I'm going to continue calling it the PSX
I have one of each number from Sony and until I got my PC I have enjoyed many hours. I have to admit the best was the PS2, the selection of games/fun playing them has not been surpassed in my books.
What do people think about older games? My friend had a master system and a saturn but trying to get hold of the older games seems very hard now.

I gave all my stuff to a friend of mine recently, he collects them. It consisted of a Panasonic 3DO, Gameboy, SNES, N64, Lynx, Atari 800, Amiga 512 (with a HUGE 20 mb hard drive
).
Having powered them up, they games weren't quite as I remember ...
(it did prompt me to install RetroPie though)
