Flickety, tickety, clickety.....
Discussion
type noise coming from the engine. Seems worst when starting from cold. Gets worse as revs increase, but will make this noise whether the car is stationary or in motion.
I first noticed this immediately after Duxford. Have been employing 'head in sand' remedy (hoping it would cure itself) but think it probably needs some attention.
Incidently performance seems unaffected.
Do any of you knowledgeable engine types have any suggestions as to what may be the problem. I'm happy to pay my usual specialist to remedy problems but its a long way away, and if I took it in for every minor problem I wouldn't get much use out of it. However this sounds a little more serious ???
Thanks for your advice.

Serpentine? Check for stones in the belt.

Definately needs checking PDQ but on older V8 could be blocked oil passage to rocker assembly hence no oil in buckets??

I assume you have checked the oil level?
What does the oil pressure read when cold/hot & tickover/revved?
If thats all ok, then check the noise is'nt a cracked manifold/downpipe.
Yes oil level is fine and the gauges seem to read the same sort of levels they always have, but I'll keep a closer eye on pressure at startup.

Or a leaking exhaust manifold gasket. Check the bolts are tight - might cure it.
I'm going to accept this suggestion as the most likely as it sounds by far the cheapest. Many thanks.![]()
Unless you need knew gaskets. Then it's a couple of quid for the gaskets and a significant number of hours labour to fit them

I was lucky I got mine done under one of those cheapy AA warranties. They wouldn't pay out for the gaskets though although they covered the labour

Sounds great now too better than any other time since I've had it. No ticks or taps etc. Just silent running at idle and very loud under load.
