Hi Folks,

Thinking of trying to get my hands on a Mk3 Chimaera 4.5. I have seen a few advertised, all of which claim to have FSH, a good condition chassis and be in otherwise good health with around 30,000 miles.

Their prices vary somewhat so I would be grateful for an indication of what are reasonable dealer (with accompanying service and warranty) and private prices.

Are you able to offer something as a guideline, I really am after some help?

If it were a truly mint Mk3, then I would expect to pay around £25k and possibly more. I would want at least 20k for my fully rebuilt late Mk2 450 and it stands me at more than that.

The one at 16k in the classifieds seems way too cheap to me. Possibly due a chassis refurb at that mileage but it is probably worth looking at.

There was a saying years ago that "You only Get what You pay For". Hence if it's too cheap, there is always a reason! In my experience over the last 46 years of buying/owning cars of any make - a quality car can never be purchased cheaply.

Rebuilds can cost a lot of money if done correctly, and you can find it can be hard to recover the money that you have spent, when you decide to sell the vehicle on.

I tend to buy a car on it's mileage and more importantly condition. Service history is a good indicator of how the owners have looked after it or not! It's better to see cars that have been garaged and had few owners, which can be an indicator of their reliability.

Buy the Best One that you can afford.
