Now I may just be going mad, but...

Took the Cerbera out for a drive yesterday and stopped off at the shops on the way back. Sadly, when I tried to re-start, the battery was too low on power and I had to call my son to bring the jump leads. I guessed it was because the car has been outside for a week and not been on charge (strange as it always lasts longer...).

When he turned up, I couldn't get access to the positive terminal through the usual gap, but managed to remove a bolt (not my original ones!) from the panel to get access to the terminals. Strange, the battery seems to be on the other way round.

On further investigation this morning, it appears my Optima Red Top battery has magically become a Yuasa one!

I can't name the garage on here (no name and shame rules), but unless I'm going mad, they have nicked my battery and replaced with an old cheap one the last time it was in with them!

Obviously, I can't prove anything, not that it would do me any good, but it is a new one on me1!

Rant over - I can only console myself wth the thought the Red Top was a few years old now.

Anyone had this before or am i unique :-)

Rob

I'm sure there has to be a sensible explanation - perhaps the batteries were swapped because the Optima was flat, and they forgot to swap back?

I tend to think it's more to do with incompetence than malice, but I'm down a battery and will have to shell out for a new one (as well as all the other items)!!!

Paul - the other items I've lost would make me believe it was more they didn't care than tried to do the decent thing.

Bodders - what missing BMW? - I haven't heard of that one! I did find a relay in the boot, which even Andy at APM couldn't find a place it was missing from!!! (Just to be clear, the battery issue wasn't Andy at APM, in case someone mis-reads this!!)

I need to spend a few days under the bonnet of the Cerbera to try and put things back in the right places. FUBAR - I'll give you a shout regarding the air boxes before long!

Cheers

From a post on the other thread someone handed over £20,000 for the restoration of a rare BMW, 1 of 3,and they now cannot find the car yikes, sounds like the cop may be getting involved!

Your lucky it is just the battery that is missing....

I probably did pay for one, looking at the amount I paid them!!! I guess my impatience getting the job done didn't help - 2 years obviously wasn't long enough!! rolleyes

Good call on the battery with reg number on it - I hadn't thought of that! Mind you, I never thought I'd take my car to a place I couldn't trust for something like that!

I'll just have to take it on the chin I guess - at least I got the car back!! Sorry to hear about that for the BMW owner.

Good excuse to take the car out to check the old battery still works!! driving

They clearly let your battery die of neglect in that period... at least they had the 'decency' to fit another to enable you to drive it home... wink ...just a shame they 'forgot' to mention or itemise it... mad

hehe If only!

Sadly, the car made sporadic appearances during the 2 year period, only to find the work they had done, had been done so badly it needed another visit!

Still, it is only the battery, there are others out there who have suffered far worse at their hands.

But it still annoys me!

Judging by your location East Sussex I bet it was the same garage that nicked my air conditioning control module. Couldn't work out why my AC wasn't working until I found the complete module was missing. They denied all knowledge but eventually after a lot of threats replaced the unit.

If I hadn't met you enough times to know better, I would have assumed you were making that up. It is simply beyond belief.
