...can you put them in the oven and make them shrink like you could with bags of crisps?

If it works, are they still legal tender?

Worth a shot. You can test it for the rest of us.
As long as the serial number is readable it will still be legal to give to a bank for replacement

Can you still spend it though. I am surprised it has taken so long to issue plastic notes, some countries have been doing it for ages.

Wondering if all machines which take notes, ie self check out at shops will take the new plastic notes?

We've had the plastic fiver in Scotland for a while now but we are far too tight to consider doing anything that silly with them biggrin

Had them in northern Ireland years ago. Apparently they are now worth £25 quid. More than a George best fiver I think.

Some fkwit has bid on this - http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-UNC-NEW-BANK-OF-ENGLAND-...

You can walk in a bank and get one for £5. Why would you pay £12 ? Am i missing something ?

When I was in Australia in 1997 they had been made from plastic quite some time before then, I'm surprised its taken this long for us to finally catch up.

Strange how making it slightly smaller makes it feel as though it is worth less or is it just me ?

Is it just me or does anyone else very rarely carry money? 95% of the time I just use card.

Money for me. Never carry any cards. I don't even have a wallet!

That's the end of my 'tear my note in half' novelty with Brit guests then.

We've got a new fiver too, I think it's lovely.

First saw these in Hong Kong over 10 years ago, I think we are a bit behind the times.
