OK, I've just got hold of an Accumate. It's currently sitting in the garage connected to the battery via the croc clips.
Has anyone used the fag lighter attachment? I was thinking of getting one, but am concerned that it may blow something.
OTOH, there is an attachment in the box for permanently mounting a charging socket on the car. Anyone done this? I'm rubbish with this sort of thing, so it would be off to a dealer/indie to get it done. Any idea of price?

I have an Accumate, I recommend fitting an external charging socket like I've done. I fitted mine to front number plate. Bought the bits from RS components but i'm sure you can buy something similar from Maplins.
First, solder a couple of lengths of wire to the socket, mount it whereever you wish. (I considered under the front wheel arch but then thought it'd get filthy). Positive wire fitted directly to the battery positive terminal. The negative is screwed directly to the chassis with a self tapping screw.
The whole lot gets wrapped in some insulating tape, then only have to fit plug to the Accumate leads. I also fitted a fuse in line.
Don't bother with a dealer, it's a an easy job, really. Go on give it a go.

The Accumate comes with a lead with a weatherproof connector and an inline fuse for exactly this purpose. I'm thinking of putting it in the hole in the inner bonnet where the washer jets come out. Need some sort of solution better than gaffer tape though, as it needs to be detachable when the inner bonnet is removed.
Yep, I went the (easy) fag lighter route (cars left locked in the garage).
If you have a phone chager with a power light, plug it in and ensure the light stays on when you turn the beast off. I understand a few are wired differently.
