"996 Turbo is still a bargain in the big-money world of classic 911s"

Nineexcellence are by far the leading authority on 996 Turbos. With hundreds on the books, they have seen it all and done it all. This is not the case for other venerable specialists who focus more on air cooled stuff and are less au fait with the subtleties of this exact model. I have specific first hand experience and can be PM'd for further detail.
This article is not being straight, really. If I were to put 60,000 miles on my turbo I'd be lucky to sell it on for more than it costs now in three years..!
The article does not go into specifics for the £5K annual. The figure is actually about right (certainly if you do 20,000miles a year!) but is not broken down.
As the article says, early 996T with getting on for six figure miles start at £30K (perhaps right). Sounds a bit like the featured one then - at £48K.

I budget £3-4K on 6,000 miles per year. This has been borne out by my costs so far and mine is a decent 2004 example with 73,000 miles.
Coolant hoses
Major Service
Brake pipes
Pads and Discs
Top mounts
Dampers
Rads
Clutch and FW
Diff issues
Gearbox niggles
Aircon stuff
Windscreens
Tyres
ABS sensors and wiring
Sunroof niggles
Spoiler rams
Heat shields

Corrosion in places
Etc, etc.
I've had some experience over the years with many of these problems. My bills have been £4K a year.

I would agree with the above as a realistic cost of keeping a turbo in top condition and have also carried out similar repairs/maintenance.
With the exception of a few parts I would say this cost also applies to keeping a normal cooking 996 on the road (engine issues excluded!)
It makes the case for a turbo over a normally aspirated 996 so much more compelling!
With moderate appreciation you can nearly drive it for free.
