V8S gear selection
Discussion
Is there any adjustment or repair that can be made to a V8S gear selector (without removing the gearbox!) to cure the following:
When changing up from 2nd to 3rd it is often impossible to engage 3rd - there is no graunching of gears, only the feeling of pushing against a solid wall unless the lever is pushed in precisely the right direction, then 3rd is engaged ok. There are no graunching noises, and it makes no difference how slow or rapid the change is made or whether the oil is hot or not.

If its the selector assembly, i saw one on ebay yesterday from a V8S.

The gear lever is located by a spherical bush that allows the lever to twist in any direction and also slide up and down (to get reverse). When this wore on my old box, the gear change felt like I was stirring a bowl of porridge and it was difficult to find gears. Your problem may be similar. Unfortunately I don't think it is possible to change the bush in situ.
If you have not changed the clutch fluid do so before doing anything else. I had exactly the same problem on my car. Once the fluid had been changed, everything was as sweet as a nut. My dealer said this should be done every year, and when you look how close the slave cyliner is to the hot exhaust it makes you realise the effect all that heat must be havig on the fluid.
