Subaru Impreza WRX

So on Sunday morning I jumped in my Civic type R to nip out and theres a slight bang and on the other gear selection cables appears to have broken. With the clutch already on its way out and me being far to busy to deal with it I chucked it on Gumtree and started to look for a replacement.

I must have advertised the civic too cheap as within a day 3 lads squeezed themselves into a transit recovery truck and drove from Birmingham to Kent to pick it up.

This left me with the slight issue of not being able to get to work very easily but as luck would have it a friend of a friend was selling an Impreza. So I popped up to have a look at the deal was done.

I'm now the owner of a blue black Impreza WRX, not a car I'd ever thought I'd own. Cars on 97k miles a recently had a full service and belts at slow boy racing and a new set of tyres. to make things better it even looks like it's cheaper to insure than the civic.





So far only driven 100miles or so but all seams good, slightly concerned about the MPG given the millage I do but fingers crossed it won't be an issue.

Oh they like drink alright. Although Type R's are pretty poor for a 2.0 four pot so I wouldn't expect a huge difference if cruising.

Looks great though. Nice to see one that hasn't been Barry Boy'd.

Cheers, I'm hoping to average 25-30mpg but we'll see, the civic was only doing low 30's

Car is pretty standard although I'm not sure the STI rear spoiler was originally on it so might look at swapping back to the small spoiler if I can find one in the right colour.

Looks tidy but probably a bit underpowered compared to your EP3 due to its weight. Still, enjoy

I generally manage 28mpg unless on a hook. Stock 220bhp is not enough. Prodrive 260bhp is better. 280bhp is easy with a few mods and a remap. 320+bhp possible if you pinch a turbo from an STI. Brakes are weak. Arches rust. Headlights are borderline dangerous although yours may have HIDS looking at the photos.

25-28 is more likely. You'll never get 30 unless you never drive in urban environments and stick to 50-60 mph everywhere.

That looks pretty good nick for nearly 100k miles.

My 51 plate bugeye is on 168k and is still on the original exhaust! These will run and run if you look after them, but they die quick if not. It's now only used for short trips to the station, and i'm sure my average MPG is in the low teens. But on a long run this weekend (Kent to Warwick and back) I reckon it was doing high twenties. best not to worry about it....

If it starts to smell of oil, check your rocker covers first as they will start to seep oil (only a drip) and it falls right onto the exhaust so smells terminal even though it's a tiny amount.

Don't worry about the petrol, every time you fill it up just remember back to how cheap it was, and what you got.

You'll soon have a new bunch of friends - although these will admittedly work in the local petrol staion.
