My Vantage is running cold at motorway cruising speed so it looks like it needs a new thermostat. Research online suggests there's a Jaguar part that is the same and half the price, but I can't find any part numbers anywhere.

Does anyone know what it is?

It's actually in the FAQ at the top of the forum :

"The thermostat I used is for XJ naturally aspirated from (V) H17519 / XK naturally aspirated from (V) B23158 part number AJ811788."

ETA : I don't think it's half price - when I looked a few months ago I think it was something like ~£65 vs ~£85.

It's the same part listed above. I've got one on my car, I've installed them on a couple other cars, and it's the same one you'll see in the video on my YouTube channel (search for Telum01 or Redpants).

Just ordered one myself - a tad over £40 with vat and delivery but still a good price - thanks for the link.

Replaced mine this morning. I've never been quite sure I needed to - it does take longer than I'd expect to warm up, but once it has it does tend to sit at the right place. But this morning I started it from cold and it was clear the hose from the thermostat was getting warm.

Sure enough, the old one had failed in the normal way.

Replacement was pretty easy thanks to the guides / videos. I didn't take the undertray off but placed a large container under the car (actually an oil drain tub) - although I had to jack the car up slightly to get it under. I then found some old flat plastic (a few old number plates!) to craft a slope from the font of the car to the back of the undertray. Worked surprisingly well (with cloths covering the belts).

The hardest part? Getting the stupid push in zip ties out that hold the electrical cable in place so that I could move the bracket out of the way. I had to destroy one of them in the end and replaced it with a normal zip tie.

Getting the old thermostat out wasn't nearly as difficult as all the threads I've read say it is. Getting the new one in... was! So I guess I was lucky getting the old one out.

I reused the old coolant and will check the level when it cools down - but it should be close enough that I'll just top up with battery water if needed.
