Hi

The power steering pump (SD1 pump) on my 390SE is leaking from the seal on the shaft where the pulley is attached. Does anyone know if I remove the pump does it come apart so I can replace the seal. I've looked at pictures of the pump and I can't see if you can dismantle it.

Thanks

Nige

Hello mate.

I think its a job for a Hydraulic specialist..Not sure about them being a DIY job...???

Someone like "Power steering services".

Sorry can't be much more help than that...

If it's the usual Eaton pump there's a single bolt on the back that retains the outer steel cover (with the filler neck). The cover is a push-fit over an O-ring so you can work it off backwards.
After that you're probably into hydraulic press territory to dismantle the main shaft, but although I've seen one stripped down I can't recall how it was done.

Thanks, I've got a spare which I'm hoping will be OK. I was just wondering if they were fixable.

Actually i can laugh but mine leaks a very tiny amount from the high pressure hose as it rested on the flange of the manifold and burnt a tiny hole...I think some braiding is needed...smile
