Genesis Equilibrium - opinions?

My wife has granted permission for me to upgrade my winter bike; LBS has a good deal on the Equilibrium disc, real world opinion would be most welcome.

Steel, discs and wide tyre clearance is just what I'm after.

Is there a huge difference between this and the Croix de Fer?

The discs are pants cable things on those?

They ride well but are heavy. I am debating getting one too but not sure on whether I'll go disc.

The Disc 20 has cable actuated hydraulics, reviews of them seem positive enough.

Not looking for a racing whippet and with my potential commute going to 25miles ea. way, it should prove suitably comfortable and reliable.
