Hi all,

I have managed to get a projector in the kids playroom but with a few constraints.

The speakers need to be relatively un-noticeable, be able to be used against the wall and in a corner and be suitable for a 5.6 x 4.6m room.

I have a budget of £200 ish and they must be wall mountable on brackets or small shelves. Small kids will soon destroy any floorstanders.

They will be used for music aswell as movies and there is no option of a centre speaker.

Also, I presume I can rub a sub from the amp speaker outputs and through a low pass filter as I want the sub behind the seating area.

So, moon on a stick, should be easy, hmm.

Dave!

My wharfedale 9.1s aren't fussy about being placed in a corner. Only £100 new too. You can spend the rest on brackets and cables then!

They are a bit too obvious, they need to be more hidden.

I remember the small cube speakers from a while back but am not sure they would fill the room very well without having to be turned right up.

I really need to do a build thread on it but my 7.1 home cinema is done with monitor audio ceiling speakers and the sound quality is superb. It's my second instal using them, the first mainly due to appearance (didn't want loads of speakers cluttering up the lounge) but this time due to baby arriving.

Would the KEF speakers fill the room nicely ?

They are certainly the right kind of size and shape.

Floorstanders will soon destroy small kids too.......

If you're planning to use a sub to handle the bass below 80ishHz, any reasonably sensitive satellite speakers will be fine if you're using a decent amp. Unless you're trying to fill an old church hall.

88db satellite + 100w amp = 108dB at 1m. 111db for a pair. 105db at 2m, 102dB at 3m.
90db satellite + 70w amp = 108.5dB at 1m. 112db for a pair. 106db at 2m, 103dB at 3m.
90db satellite + 100w amp = 110dB at 1m. 113db for a pair. 107db at 2m, 104dB at 3m.

I get plenty of noise out of a set of these running in 3.1 mode with a Yamaha receiver

http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-packag...

Out of interest why don't you want to fit a centre? Is it just because you're using a music amp?

FWIW I find it helps with dialogue on some TV shows.

I'm still not convinced they will fill the room as I want.

I have a Bose Soundock I've had for 11 or 12 years and it's great but doesn't give the room fill and has more speaker area than those.

My moon and stick seems hard to find.

Is in wall possible?

if you're on a low budget, look for infinity Oreus, they're better than original keg eggs, but not as well own in the uk so sometimes on the bay for cheap.
You can use the spare budget to get them resprayed in metallic black - look great then.

"As you want" maybe not, but they will fill a room with the right amp.... I never got them past 1/2 way on my NAD amp

I don't know how powerful your amp is but lets assume its 100w

These https://www.audiovisualonline.co.uk/product/12174/... will play at the following volume levels with a 100w amp. 88db satellite + 100w amp = 108dB at 1m. 111db for a pair. 105db at 2m, 102dB at 3m.

Looks like an older model to be sold at such a huge discount. I've heard an earlier generation of this product and they're good. Very well made, extruded aluminium enclosure, ideal frequency response when used with a sub.

£39.00 + £12.50 for the wall brackets.......happy days.

Fingers crossed too. Back in the early 2000s, I worked for the company that distributed the generation one versions of that speaker for Audica. The build quality and sound quality was top notch; enough to justify their pretty lofty price tag. There wasn't much feedback on the link, what there was was pretty complementary about the latest version too.

Have you chosen the sub yet or do you already have one ?

The looks swung it for me.

I've not decided on a sub yet, it needs to be fed from the left/ right speaker terminals. It will sit closest to the amp and behind the chair we will watch from.

We have a Samsung sound bar and amp which I'm happy with in the living room so I'm not after heavy bass. Just a nice fill and to not annoy the neighbours.

Those are a cracking purchase for £40. I've just sold a set of Audica CS-T1 in black and with a sub they sounded really rather good. The chap came from quite some way away to buy them too.

In fact those CX-S are such a bargain I've just bought a pair to keep for use as surrounds down the line one day! I'm supposed to be getting rid of speakers, not buying more (I have a pair of Celestion A1s and a B&W AS2 which need new homes...)!

Just a little update on this.

I fitted the speakers a few weeks ago along with a Gemini 2 sub.

The sound is fantastic, very melodic and no harshness, which I was a little worried about with the speakers being so small.

The sound fills the room absolutely fine and even when up very loud it still stays really clear. Very very pleased with it.

The Sub is a bit much in some ways but looks great, is very well built and just plods along with some really punchy bass when needed, I'm not really testing it at all.

I just need to get a Record player and start going through the couple of hundred LPs I have in the loft now!

Dave!
