Ive seen the wiki and can't decide whether my little 240mm should be swapped for 260 or something bigger like the 278, but the 278 add a slot of unsprung weight....

what do you think??

I got the same as phillpot on my S 'chimaera' calipers with 260mm discs was a no nonsense straight swapover..
Then i went & bought the fiesta st mk6 calipers with 278 discs (have to get machined down from 283 sierra ones i think) which i never got round to using or rather couldn't be bothered getting discs machined down, let me know if you go that route wink

Why not just do what you did on the V6? That worked well enough. Anyway, If you're going to be driving around at posing speed showing of your new chav-lights, what do you need decent brakes for? laugh

I'm considering it for Samy as she will be track oriented. It is pretty straight forward with 300mm discs but that would need bigger wheels.

Why are you not copying TG's set up?

The Brembo calipers are supposed to be very good.. And widely available too.. I guess a mounting bracket is required.?

I also went for the 260mm discs, XR4 calipers. Only problem was to get the caliper carriers which are getting hard to get hold of. Phillpot kindly sold me a spare pair. No problems fitting at all. The uprate might not seem much but it has made a significant difference and given me the confidence to push the car hard now. (Great run out with the Peak group on Saturday, gave the brakes a good testing!!)

IIRC brackets are available for the 300mm discs but one would be required for the 278 / 283mm discs. I doubt it would be too complex a bracket. It is on my list to look at but I have more pressing matters.

Avoid continual heavy braking wink

I suppose the 260mm is an easy, nun too expensive option but the Bremmbo idea sounds interesting (never have liked sliding calipers).

Mmmmmm, thinking about it I've got some 4 pots here, not Brembo, took 'em off the Taimar coz one was sticking bad scratchchin

I've got 285 disks, I would save your money and spend it on petrol, if you're
not going racing with it

Watching this with interest, I want to put bigger discs on the front of my S3 and swap the drums for discs on the back.

do standard chim 260mm discs fit the front?

does the chim rear setup including hubs fit the rears?

Got standard front brake setup on my S3c. This year I've done 3 European tours and 2 Lotus test track days, been around LeMans circuit, Mugello circuit and driven over 3500 in 11 days over some pretty dramatic countryside. During all that driving, I've not had an issue with the brakes underperforming or failing. I know that an upgraded setup will give better performance, but I feel the standard system on mine has been fine. Sure, if you drive super heavy in to a corner and trail your braking, you're going to cook them, but I've found mine to be ok..

Regarding the brake performance , I have just finished putting the 260mm discs and xr4 calipers on the front and chimaera rear disc and caliper conversion on the back all with new stainless braided hoses and to be honest I can't really tell any difference from the small discs and drums .
It all looks a lot nicer though !!
It's all in all quite an easy conversion with only a couple of tricky bits to sort but it's all documented well in these forums and plenty of sound advice from others who have already carried out previously....cheers Mike !!
Hope this helps .
Cheers.
