Just read this on Canon's website. Basically says that there are a number of counterfiet batteries doing the rounds that are branded as Canon but are of much lower quality and in some cases dangerous to use.
It could all just be a clever trick to get everyone to buy genuine Canon batteries, but I thought I'd post up to avoid any "My 1dsII has just exploded" threads.

I think that's a case of 'Well they would say that wouldn't they?'
There's the same issue with Nikon. A Nikon battery for the D70 retails at £49.99. A generic one is about £10, and I've never heard of anyone having problems with them - in fact mine is 1500mAh instead of Nikon's 1400mAh.
If Nikon and Canon are worried by falling battery sales, they should cut their prices, not scaremonger.

Yes, but they're not saying anythign about generic ones, these are proper counterfiet Canon ones which look almost identical in every way to genuine ones, hence would be sold at the same price i presume.
