Incredibly sad, the passenger was in his eighties which won't have helped his chances. I imagine there will be (and rightly so) questions about his suitability for the flight. The airframe looks surprisingly intact.

Good news that he had a stable night at hospital. Fingers crossed for a recovery and condolences to the family of the deceased.

Maurice is also the boss of Eye Tech Engineering, well respected in the field of overhauling Merlin engines.

Surprisingly intact? Sounds like a relatively low speed accident on landing, which nevertheless seems to have removed the engine up to the bulkhead, and most of the wing. I'd assume a much less violent accident could have proved fatal under the circumstances. What's surprising about it?

Yesterday, initial reports referred to a fire taking hold, witnesses spoke of an explosion. If the engine and a wing had become detached, my initial thoughts were that it may have cartwheeled. Both seemed to me, to be events 'worthy' of far more structural damage. As it is, the machine looks recoverable. None of that of course, comes close to the tragedy of losing a life.

Sad the passenger lost their life, but personally it's good to see Maurice is slowly improving.
