Car struggling to start
Discussion
Porsche 987 2006.
Backlog - The car was serviced on Thursday, oil change, filter change, spark plugs replaced, removed and refit engine sump pan and front right suspension was changed and the car was washed early in the day with a jetwash.
3-4 hours later the car struggled alot to start when cold, the engine turns over yet won't start... The temperature gauge then moves up to around 20 (this shouldn't really happen after being cold for a while that quickly)... I then try again and it turns over and 'catches' and than goes up from 500-1000rpm and idles alright.
When the car finally starts there is a very strong smell of oil from the back of the car and alot of smoke (white I believe).. there was also a slight puddle of water under the car and even when idled for 10 minutes the car is still producing white smoke from the back (very small amount).. Driving it to the mechanics house I don't think the revs were right, had a little speed up down a lane and it seemed a little off, may have been in my head though.
Please be aware that I have been having problems with the CEL coming up due to the lambda sensors and I also have been having problems with the temperature gauge failing once in a while.. I heard this can cause issues.
Could it be the temperature gauge going and/or the lambda sensors?

Possibly coolant temp sensor; falsely informing the DME that the engine is very cold (-40C) and the CU supplies enrichment incorrectly.
Could also be the Air Oil Separator; the unit can fail leading to a very weak mixture and or heavy oiling in the intake - a failed AOS has been known to hydraulic lock the engine in some extremes cases; so much oil is taken into the intake. I have also seen rear main seals pulled into the engine or ending up unseating and falling out
