No ghosts AFAIK but my TV, 40 inch Samsung about 6 years old, has started switching itself on/off seemingly at random. Its connected to a Yamaha Amp, and normally controlled via a Harmony remote.

Any suggestions as to the cause, or is it time to get a new screen?

Its not a smart TV, so software updates are unlikely to be the culprit.

Something is triggering false "on" signals, just not sure what.

Maybe time to get a new TV?

It might be the capacitor, I had a similar issue on my 52inch about 4 years ago, give Samsung a ring they fixed mine FOC, and that was about 4 years old at the time.

Check it hasnt got CEC / AnyConnect control turned on, sorry cant remember what Samsung call it.

It basically looks at the HDMI sources and if any turn on it will turn the sceen on as well.

I had it at a clients house, screens did an update (over the tv aerial) while they were away on holiday, came home to all the tv's on because the matrix was sending then the centralised Sky signal.

Popped in and turned the CEC / AnyTime?? setting off and no problems since.

No not that - just checked and its turned off.

Its been behaving itself for a couple of days now - the only things that changed is I've changed my old Harmony One for a Harmony Elite, I wonder if that could have been the culprit?

The tv i had an issue wasn't a smart tv either, i can't remember if it was update settings that they used to use to get the firmware updates for your TV over the aerial caused the tv to randomly turn off and on

Edit - Similar to this i think from memory/google
