I'm getting married in 3 weeks and thought I was on the final straight as far as planning is concerned (actually, she's done most of it, tbh!) but now find that apparently I also need to buy my Bride to be a wedding gift!

I'm really struggling for inspiration and genuinely have no clue as to what is expected.

What sorts of things have others bought for theirs? Suggestions from all the wedding sites seem to range from amusing personalized socks to hideously expensive jewellery - I have no clue what to spend or what to get. Help!

It's a concept I don't really get as you are committing to each other, and at the same time spending (usually) a huge amount of money on the wedding itself.

I got married 3 months ago. My wife bought me a nice watch, as she had a couple of reasonably expensive rings wink

I bought her a remote control for the telly so that she had one of her own, rather than trying to pinch mine (obviously not set up to work)

Mind you, the wife brought the whole wedding in for under £4k so not your typical Bridezilla

Have you discussed with your bride to be and agreed a budget for gifts? That would probably be my first port of call

I’ve only ever heard this once before, and it was also on PH!

I got married last year, most of my mates are married, and I’ve never once before heard of this, its not a thing, and isn’t needed!

Get her a present by all means, but don’t give it to her around the wedding day as it's all so manic and stressful that it will not even register.

We gave each other our wedding rings as our presents! Nothing else needed, really.

As others have said, I haven't heard of this and didn't do it when I got married.

We bought each other watches. I needed another watch.

What do you need OP? Make it work for you no doubt she will have spent a fair penny on her side of the wedding so far. Her engagement ring would have been more than yours, her dress would have been a lot for that your suit etc...

Oh and when / if you have a child you have to buy her another gift!

No your wife for giving birth.

Correction yes your daughter, son, wife, mother in law... they all require gifts your life is just one gift after another so make sure you get something back.

It's certainly starting to sound a bit like this!

Ok, so I'm resigned to having to get something, but what!?
I like the watch idea but she never wears one.

I did do the wedding gift thing, good Job as she had something given to me on the day!

I bought her pearls both a necklace and bracelet, something she will always have and wear occasionally!
I also thought about diamond studs or a necklace to match her sapphire engagement ring.

I got bought a watch, she knows I love watches!

NSFW! Im fairly confident this will slip through the cracks of the sys-admins near-infallible monitoring, but id rather not open sites like that at work.

Agree with the pearl necklace by the way, wedding gifts are a stupid concept, it isnt about more stuff and spending more money...

If she want to spend money on something she really wants (and you get to buy yourself something cool), just do it that way, attaching it to the wedding and expecting the other party to guess/figure it out just puts more unneeded and irrelevant strain on the whole wedding thing.
