I have an ongoing speeding battle. Long story short. 35mph in a 30 , didn't see the fixed camera. I didn't see the 30mph sign and I thought is was a 40 mph . Station Road Amersham half way up the hill.
The ticket arrives in the post. I go to look for camera and signs. The Camera is hidden in the hedge and the sign is hidden by the hedge.(see photo) The bigger speed camera sign is completely turned the wrong way round. (see photo)
I go in search of other signs. I drive the route I took that morning. I spot the first and only 30mph (terminal sign) at exit of the roundabout bottom of A355 Gore Hill. This 30mph sign is 0.7 miles away from the site of the fixed camera and is knocked at an angle and not easy to see.
I complain to the fixed penalty support unit in Banbury. They say and I Quote ' At this site there is no legal requirement for the camera to be visible or that signs advising of the enforcement be in place.
Yes there is Street lighting on this road. It was not on at the time and most of the lamp posts for the street lights are in the trees with there heads sticking out the top.

sorry pictures came out side ways.

If you have been entrapped in the same way I would like to hear from you.

Entrapped, my sweaty bum-crack.

To get there, you'd come through 30 limits with no change-of-limit signs. There are streetlights all the way up a residential road, with not one single repeater - then a (totally optional) speed camera warning sign which is immediately before the big bright yellow speed camera which has been there for at least fifteen years. If you came from the bypass roundabout towards Old Am, then there's NSL signs just off the r'a'b at the start of the bypass - and all the other roads are 30. If you came past Tesco, then... well, to think that's anything but 30...

Bang-to-rights.

Ask for a copy of the highway code for Christmas, it a frightfully good read.

Can we have less of the sanctimoniousness, and more silver bullets that will let OP magically avoid taking the punishment for speeding in a 30?

There's a very simple silver bullet. Knowledge of the default speed limits. Your driving instructor explained it to you.

Is there a website somewhere that sells old pistonheads usernames and log ins?

Drivers are not expected to guess at speed limits Or have a mental catalogue of what signs and cameras have been there for 15 years. It is not about local knowledge. I do not think its much to ask . just want the signs to be visible . If there was a Cretin crossing sign you would want to see it.

Indeed they aren't.

Even if you are utterly mentally incapable of remembering whether you've passed change-of-limit signs since the 30 limit started, then if there are streetlights - lit or not - and no repeater signs, it does not take a guess. It definitely is NOT a 40.

Again though, how does that get OP out of his ticket. He's pretty special, and very important, and its an injustice that the speed laws apply to him.

Good point, well made.

Here, OP, have the special hug that you - and you alone - deserve.

Sign or no sign, I think the OP needs to go to Specsavers. How the censored do you manage to miss a bright yellow box on a pole? - https://goo.gl/maps/NxXaJ7NfEgm
At 35mph a quick dab of the brakes will easily bring you below the enforcement threshold.

Slightly O/T, that co-located sign does not signify the start of the 30 limit. I thought it is unlawful to have a 30 repeater sign where there is a system of street lighting.

I guess there are probably rules about signage too. I don't see why the rules should only apply to the motorist and not to the authorities trying to impose their arbitrary speed limits.

There is. And the rules were complied with in the scenario above.

Mate...no one crows more than me when they have been sly, devious, deceptive, overly rigid, pointless, safety ambivalent or just plain out for yer cash. This fits no such criteria. Take it on the chin - but do tell them to trim their bush a bit wink

No, it's just not required.

If you can point to the 40mph speed limit sign that informed you that the road was a 40mph speed limit you would have a case. Other than that you do not.
Entrapment? No!

The bush belongs to the flats behind the sign.
