How to prove a fake accident/scam?
Discussion
Evening all,
Don't know what to make of this - how do you prove you weren't somewhere?
A relative has been told he's been in an accident. Not sure of the full details but here's what I know:
First up - a phone call from a local police station to inform him someone claims he hit their car in a local golf club car park & drove off.
He says he wasn't there & there's no damage to his car. I see the car pretty much every day & there isn't.
No photographic evidence from the victim
no CCTV at the club
victim's witness is a relative.
A private prosecution is on the way apparently - details unknown
So how does he prove he wasn't there at the time mentioned? Nothing in his diary for that day. No emails sent from his MS office account at the time in question. Nothing in anyone else's diary to say they were with him at the time in question
Phone records?
Can a phone provider geo locate a phone for a specific time & date? (He has a company supplied phone, through an account with a corporate communications company. Can they ask O2 to "pull the file".....or have I been watching too much crap telly?)
No photo's on his phone at that time that could be geo located either
Car Satnav?
Can LandRover interrogate his vehicle to provide a location for x time & Y date? (it's a 2014 RR V6D Autobiography)
Any suggestions? How could you prove you weren't at x location on y date if you needed to?
Many thanks.

If he has an Android phone, open Maps, and find My Timeline. Might prove his phone was elsewhere, if not his car.
As regards the private prosecution thing, its piffle. With flagrant disregard to accepted wisdom, I might be tempted to let the insurance company know, with a big red 'wasn't me, i wasn't there, and neither was my car' note.

randlemarcus, hornetrider, bigyoke, 98elise - good info much appreciated, thanks.
kungfupanda - I could have misheard, misunderstood that part - could be a civil claim.
toomany2cvs - obviously whiplash, many years of physio, counselling, critical brain injury, loss of future earnings for several generations of hedge fund owners. Or more likely, about £25...
All, many thanks.

Hmm, how about launching a counter-claim for stress and illness related to the false accusation?
Only joking.
Many a true word etc...The whole thing's a flippin joke. Consequences this time are relatively minor, but still a stressful diversion for my BiL. Certainly trivial compared to http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-214730... which a friend's neighbour was involved in the prosecution of...hideous.Only joking.

Jesus. I'd not seen that at all...SO many things that so many people did wrong, all combining to make a monumental mess...
Staged crash.
She wasn't part of that, but hit the van that WAS.
Instead of getting the hell out of the way, she then fannied around in the carriageway getting stuff out of her car.
Some numpty who wasn't looking then ploughed into the whole sorry cock-up.
Not long ago I was convinced alongside the manager and owner of a local company that one of their staff had been falsely accused of driving into a Focus and driving off.
I went to court with him and disputed all the evidence, claimed under oath I could not see how in my professional opinion he could have been there and done that, alongside their times being out with the vehicle tracker and suspecting they had just seen another silver van and assumed it was that one.
Anyway, he won the case, they were going for 6 points I do believe.
Afterwards he admitted to it. I could have socked him straight in the face.
I don't think you'll have an issue.

Could he not take his car straight to the police station to get hem to verify there is no accident damage. Also if he's a member of the golf club could he not try and get the allocated tee times for that day (would show he wasn't playing). I know he could of been there for another reason but if he's a regular, people would recognise him, certainly the pro or bar staff and confirm not seeing him, just a thought.

Too late for the police inspection I think - it was a while ago.Good idea about the golf club tho' - tee times, witnesses, signing in etc. I'll pass that on, ta.
