Sometimes there's a few small blocks of wood glued to the underside of dash top, to support the dash face, could be catching as your lowering top, try lifting dash top up and look for the blocks, either pull or push dash facia back to locate.
I've seen these blocks on a mates car but can't recall seeing them on my own car!

Mine has some metal "L" shaped brackets glued to the upper and lower fibreglass dash housings that the dash can lean against to keep it in place...I've seen these blocks on a mates car but can't recall seeing them on my own car!
