1993 Mercedes W124 E220 saloon

Well its the time of year again to take the bike off the road and get myself a daily car. I had a good look around for something older and interesting to use but had not much luck locally. I saw this for sale on Retrorides but in Harrogate, so after a couple of emails back and forwards with the owner I booked tickets for the 3 hour train ride and went and picked it up on Monday.
The interior is an awesome piece of 80's German styling and by far my favourite bit of the car so far
There are a few little bits of bodywork I would like to address but it is surprisingly clean overall, and once i get a chance to pull it apart for a proper machine polish and service it should be very nice, especially for 'shed' money!
it has 98,000 miles and with loads of service history it certainly looks like it has been well looked after, and it drives lovely (if a bit slow)
Plans are pretty basic:
-Deep clean and polish inside and out
-New front discs due to minor brake judder and they have a fairly heavy lip
-Full service
No doubt I will find some other bits to do at the same time but so far I have done 250 miles in it and am very happy with my first Mercedes

Super. Delightful colour combination and great spec. I had the coupe with this engine, and was always pleasantly surprised by the economy and refinement.
As an aside, I've always found Harrogate a happy hunting ground for well-maintained and much loved older cars. Plenty of people with that combination of good taste, plenty of money and a make-do-and-mend Yorkshire attitude.

Welcome to the W124 club. Keep it 6 months and you'll be hooked.
If that's the one I was thinking of it looked like an absolute steal. The colour combo is one of the nicest you'll get imo - especially that very rare interior.
And the 220 engine is fine too - we all love our in-line sixes, but the 220 suits the car perfectly well, especially when the sixes - even the 3.2 - aren't particularly quick by today's standards.

Oh god, that looks absolutely sublime. Gone are the days when someone could spec a car with dual tones of green over a caramel coloured interior in cloth no less. And that sense of absolutely devastatingly high quality in an 80's Mercedes can't be rivaled.

Totally agree about the beauty of this versus dull brashness of modern colour schemes. Also the delicacy of the thing, not just in colour but in lines and simplicity and lack of clutter. The calm and understated nature of it. 10x better than the aggressive blinginess of most new cars today.
