Looking for a wheel to use as a spare, i have a 98 Chimaera. I already carry the foam cans and pump but i would like the added comfort of knowing i have a spare if i get caught out.

Issues i have are.

1. Ford 17" rs 7 spokes all round

2. 4 pot calipers on front (Sierra Cosworth 2WD)

Any one have any idea's what could be used ?

For 4 stud fitting on mine, I use a Ford Focus ST170 spare wheel. It is different to an ordinary Focus one which will not fit over 300mm front discs. However, I am on 15" fronts (205/55/15) and 16" rears (225/50/16).

This chart may help: https://tiresize.com/comparison/

125/85/16 Focus ST170 spare wheel.

Put your tyre size in to the chart and see how far they differ.

Peugeot wheels are 4x108 and use et25. You could find an odd 15" aftermarket 7j wheel as a spare perhaps?

You only need a wheel big enough to clear the brakes as it will be a spare. If you have standard rear brakes, a 14" wheel will cover those. If you have a flat front tyre then you remove a rear wheel first, put the 14" spare on the rear then put the good rear on the front. Simple smile

Agree with Robx. Ford ST space saver will not fit over Brembo calipers. You have to move back to front and put spare on the back

So the ST 170 space saver will work then, as you say just swap wheels around from back to front

Tbh, you could use a regular 15" focus mk1 space saver, I assume you never had the original TVR space saver when you bought the car? It was an alloy version.

Mine doesn't have a spare so I bought an early full size Focus 15" wheel to carry. When I test fitted it, it was fine, except I only tried it on the front. rolleyes I wrongly presumed it would be bound to fit on the rear, being a larger wheel.

Fortunately I didn't have to use it because I discovered later that it didn't fit on the rear because the rear hubs / discs are bigger than the front. I suppose if I'd had a rear puncture, I could put the front wheel on the rear and then put the spare on the front but the car would sit all wrong.

Whatever spare you get, only use it to go as short a distance as necessary. Even if it isn't, I'd recommend treating it like a spacesaver. Low speed and as short a distance as possible.
