I had a bit of an off and have had to claim on my insurance for repairs.

Local specialist submitted a quote, engineer attended and inspected the car, estimate accepted.

It now transpires that some parts are NLA and some are long term back order. Those parts that are available have to be paid for up front before they can be ordered from Germany.

Is it realistic to agree and figure with the insurance company, that they could pay up front, that will allow me to buy used parts and order the rest as and when available?

Thanks in advance.

Is that usual in cases like this?

Should I email the insurance company and submit a formal request?

Thanks for the advice.

Is the local specialist fixing the car, or are you? if the specialist is fixing it, it is up to them what they do, not you. All you do is pay your excess, that's it.

They are, but parts like the wheels are from specialist suppliers and need to be sent away. There are also several major parts that are NLA and may well need to be sourced second hand in other countries. I am in a position to do this more quickly (than the repairer) and save on repair time and cost.
