Couple of words of advice after doing this for the last 2 years (!):
- keep your details private
- organise stuff through email so you have records/easier contact details
- keep records of emails in an Excel file
Although you might think that putting up your sort code & a/c number means people can only pay in, I do believe that Jeremy Clarkson believed the same thing once and challenged people to do otherwise in a column he wrote. Someone duly fleeced him of some money and donated it to charity, IIRC.

They didn't fleece him of money then donate it to charity. They set up a direct debit for him to donate to charity. With just a sort code and account number you can't remove money. To be able to do what they did to Jeremy you would need his address too which isn't hard to find. With all three you can sign people up for stuff but you still can't take money and put it in your pocket craigjm said:

I wasn't aware of the exact mechanics of it, but I'm sure setting up a direct debit still counts as taking someone's money, despite it not going to those who set it up.
But that's a bit of a tangent. I'm just offering advice to the OP being in his position.
Thanks spud, the account thankfully doesn't allow direct debitsBut that's a bit of a tangent. I'm just offering advice to the OP being in his position.
