Looking for some advice on a diamond that I have (sort of) been offered.
Long story short I am considering proposing to my girlfriend after new year so I have been browsing a few sites in my spare time but not properly looked in to it. I know the style ring she wants and I am going to get one made rather than going to a shop and choosing a mass produced piece.
A friend of a friend is selling an engagement ring after him and his missus split up and I am considering buying it for the actual diamond and just selling the platinum band (no idea on platinum value) but I think I could get the ring for around £1000, he apparently paid nearer to 4k not long a go.
The diamond is 0.68 carat, VS2, F in colour, 'very good' round cut. From what I can see online this seems like a very good price considering I will also get a bit back on the actual ring. The ring is from Blue Nile who I know have a good reputation.
It then puts me in good stead to get one made my self using this diamond as the central/main one.
I did have a budget of around £2500 for the ring but what i have been looking at are mainly SL1/2 rings. I am sure for the same budget I can get a much better quality ring by buying the above.
Does this sound 'right'? Is it worth buying and then sitting on for a few months? I have a feeling I maybe kicking my self if I dont and have to settle for a lower quality one at a most expensive price in the near future.
Any advice appreciated as I am an absolute novice in this field

You should speak to Howard on here about your stone, and your requirements....first class guy all the way. His knowledge and passion for gems is remarkable.

The ring I had made was out of this world, both in the planning and design, but also my level of involvement. I got exactly what I wanted, and now have an absolutely unique piece. Best decision I ever made, with respect to jewellery ;-)

Read this thread and contact Eddie. He's down in Dorset so not too far from yourself (if your profile is correct).
