Buying an A6 (4F) 2008, but which one?
Discussion
I've been made an offer for my current Passat B6, so I've made up my mind I'm going for an A6, prob a 2007 or 2008. Just need to decide on whether or not I keep it sensible & buy a 2.0TDI, or go a bit off piste & go for a 3.2 or even a 4.2 (both in Quattro autobox guise, avoiding any multitronic issues). Mileage wise I did 9000 miles last year, 3000 of which was in one hit & won't be repeated in a hurry (or so they tell me). I'll be spending the same amount irrespective on whether it's a diesel or a petrol, I'm at an age where insurance is what it is anyhow, and road tax in the UK is still the cheapest in Europe, so not many complaints there.
All advice welcome on which road to take!

I've literally just put my Silver 3.2 FSI Quattro Avant on Auto Trader tonight. Brilliant car, will return 30+ mpg on a run, cheap tax bracket as pre 2006, loads of space and it goes well too. I say go for it, and don't rule out petrol. Over my two years of ownership it has just cost some tyres, a set of breaks and a service. My previous 520d was very cheap to run - until the turbo blew. That soon canceled out any saving!
Good luck!

Very nice, I was looking at the V8 too, although the V6 came up with the spec I wanted so went for that. Either way, you won't be disappointed! I recal the car feeling very big on my test drive, however that soon changed and with no time it felt like home. Good luck - very exciting ; )

Thanks for the advice, I think if I do go petrol I'll go big. If it's diesel it'll be kept sensible. Going to see a 4.2 this weekend
