List of best excuses used for buying a new camera or lens...
Discussion
I'm somewhat interested in hearing from other avid camera enthusiasts on here their best plausible excuses used to justify the purchase of a camera or lens, which in the eyes of the other-half may be somewhat excessive and unwarranted.
I have a vested interest in dreaming up a valid excuse after 'accidentally' purchasing a Canon lens last night which I have to confess is a little more expensive than wise for my camera budget which currently stands at NIL
Now I appreciate that I will be able to take some lovely portrait photographs with this lens with dreamy bokeh, etc, but I don't think that that will be taken into consideration and cut much ice when the wife spots the purchase on my credit card statement sometime in November, so a little help is required before I move in with the dog in the kennel.
Any useful excuses much appreciated

With the £ dropping so much, and it being something that is likely to continue and maybe get worse, the time to buy a camera, and lenses, is now before new, higher priced stock arrives.
That's the argument I used with myself. I found it very convincing. It was well researched and the logic was irrefutable.

Ha, now that was precisely the same logic I used in the first place to justify the purchase to myself, though the wife won't see it that way as she has the money earmarked for other projects such as kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, etc... you can see why my argument is flawed from her perspective. That's the argument I used with myself. Will add that reasoning to my list of excuses

Probably not much help to you, but I'd been asked to take photos at a friend's wedding.
At the time I had a Canon 40D,18-85 EFS kit lens and 50mm 1.8.
I reasoned that I definitely needed a backup body in case of kit failure, when I spotted a manager’s special price (around 40% reduction) on a 5D and 24-105 f4 L lens in Jessops at Watford whilst out shopping. Brief chat with my wife that I needed some form of backup and it was a real bargain (which it was), and ended up bringing it home.
