My exhaust has been open whether or not in Sport - and while I sometimes like them open, at other times I enjoy driving the car quietly. No, I have not touched the fuse.

Grange Welwyn prescribe new exhaust back boxes on both sides for £2.5k inc fitting and VAT before any potential discount.

Does anyone know of other options?

It needs the valves checking as well as the vacuum pump. Unless you've got a hole in the backbox you will not need a new one.

Unfortunately I did not make a note of the exact words used but it was something like: 'the levers which operate the valves on both sides have broken, and the only way to correct it is to change the back boxes'.

There is no suggestion of the exhaust being holed.

Check the pipes are connected to the valves. Mine where disconnected by the previous owner (on my v8 but I assume it's similar on the v12).

Hi

My DB9 apparently had stuck / broken valves before I bought it approved used. A new rear silencer was fitted as part of the prep work.

However I think you can replace the actuators on their own. Or if actual flap has Seized inside then a new one can be welded one. Easier for dealer to just replace.

BTW there is only one exhaust box at the back with 2 inputs and associated valves.

Thanks for the comments so far. My valves were working but one day were suddenly stuck open.

What the dealer actually said was 'the levers are broken off the valves on both sides'. I am going to talk to the tech rather than the man at the desk tomorrow.

One possible interpretation of your situation:

Your valves were working. They then seized. You took the car to the dealer. They try to free the levers/valves resulting in the current state that "the levers are broken off the valves on both sides" (Really - BOTH sides??). How else are the levers "broken"? By the huge power of the vacuum actuating them??? So perhaps the dealer damaged your exhaust and therefore if the only solution is replacement of the entire back box then maybe a dealer contribution would be in order.

Just the way I would be thinking around this problem. If they refuse to engage I'd take it to a decent Indy.

Agree with Pete, there is no way those levers can break off unless your vacuum pump has suddenly started kicking out 15 bar of pressure. Fists of ham come to mind (granted they were probably seized anyway). Speak to one of the indi's, I can't remember off the top of my head how much they cost.
