Just about to get my 20 month old son his first balance bike and want to get a helmet too.
On the Halfords site they start at £3!!!! Can't be much protection there right?

What are the brands to look out for?
Budget not an issue.

The Decathlon ones seem pretty good and both my kids find them comfortable.

Specialized, Giro, Met, Lazer, Bell all make decent helmets. Very important to try them on for fit- when I took my little boy down to Evans the one I liked the look of best didn't fit his head that well and we ended up with a Specialized small fry which was slightly cheaper but sat on his noggin much better. Think it cost me about £25.

He wasn't keen on it at first but now he's 6 months older he runs to get it when he sees me put my helmet on to go for a ride, they just want to be mini-adults smile

Timely, I'm getting my 21 month old boy a BB and helmet for Christmas.

Tried a Specialized one on in the LBS, seemed to fit him quite well, of course he wouldn't keep it on for any length of time though!

Agree on the wanting to be mini adults bit, he loves my bike and hopes on the balance bike at the LBS as soon as we get there.

We went on a little break to wales a few weeks ago, when he saw my bike on the roof rack it was literally the most exciting thing in the world for him, and then every time we saw another car on the motorway with bikes on the roof he had to point it out for us smile

When we got to the cottage both mine and my Dad's bikes had to be stored in the hallway inside the front door, every time he walked past them he'd either play with the pedals or had to be picked up and put on the saddle.

He's only 18 months old, hopefully this enthusiasm for bikes will continue when he's older! He has a little wooden trike at the moment, but I'll be getting him a BB for his 2nd birthday I think.

Slightly OT but what balance bikes are you guys getting for them?

Only one I've seen so far in the flesh is the Specialized Hotwalk, I'm not sure I wanna pay ~£100 for one though.

Probably going to get a 2nd hand Islabike Rothan. We have another kiddie on the way so it will be used twice, then can stick it back on eBay once we're done with it.

Good plan.

We've had a couple of Halfords helmets for the kids, but the Abus one we got has been the best. He's about to grow out of it, so I'll be looking for another one of theirs but a bit bigger.

I paid about £20 for a hotwalk on gumtree. I have 3 sons so any costmetic scratches it had when we got it are long forgotten and accompanied by myriad more anyway.

Cratoni helmets for kids.

They have an integral light on the tensioner and they cover the full back of the head.

My kids have the same size - one was 6yo when I gave it to her whereas my son is now 11yo.

Just bought a Wiggins Pau from Halfords.
£100 reduced to £90 but an extra 10% off with British Cycling membership and cashback from Quidco

Plus £15 of "equipment" with all kids bikes at Halfords just now which we didn't know about. We picked a helmet that I'd seen on line so we'll have to try it on him and return it if it doesn't fit.
