Has anyone ever felt they've had really bad luck for most of their lives from small things all the way up to the larger stuff?

Do you still feel that way or did you manage to turn things around?

Nope. In fact, I'm pretty convinced I live a charmed life.

st does happen, but everything seems to work out alright in the end. I suppose it is all about perspective really.

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.
( there; it needed to be said)

More seriously; had I relied upon luck in my life, I am pretty sure I would have been dead 40 years ago.

No, but I do believe in self fulfilling prophecies, that your subconscious and conscious mental attitude to something can have an affect on the outcome. So you thinking your unlucky will make you 'unlucky' but are you really subconsciously sabotaging yourself or self destructive?

This.

The people I know who believe themselves to be "cursed with bad luck" seem to make most of the situations worse for themselves by blaming it on bad luck, and not bad decisions which they could learn from and not make again.

My friend's mum seems to be the worst at this... she's an entirely lovely person, and always ready to help others when they need it, but in doing so, often finds she neglects things she should do, like the other week when her car broke down, she'd ignored a warning light on the dashboard for some time and then it was just bad luck that it happened to her, right at at time when she was due to take her mum to the doctors, so she had to get a taxi whcih cost £x etc etc.

Yes, perspective is the key but I can clearly remember many situations when I thought how lucky or how unlucky I was. Like surviving almost unhurt in a terrible car crash.

No, I think of myself as a lucky person generally. Everything usually turns out right in the end. In fact I live in fear of the enormous karmic rebalancing I'm sure must be due.

That said I believe we make a lot of our own luck. Being an analytical person who overthinks everything and is good at manipulating people is a good way to avoid a great deal of 'bad luck'.

Every single f*cking day!

I literally cant do anything without something going wrong. It gets to the point where I expect it to go wrong.
I also very rarely think "today has been a good day" because when I do something bad happens.

You own a Porsche and Ferrari though so you can't be all that unlucky.

Afraid you're wrong there. I'm almost certain that you and all your loved ones will die.

biggrin Yes, life is st and then you die; it's up to you whether you focus on the stty things or soldier on through and focus on the positives.

I'm totally with you on this. You can't wish for good luck, but you can make sure you're in exactly the right position if/when good luck happens to strike.

But with my luck; I'll go first, in a big ball of flames. Thus never having to suffer through the loss of loved one.

See! Perspective biggrin

It is all down to how you view it is it not?

For example, I had a bone shattered once. Bad luck perhaps. However I didn't have to have the finger amputated, so good luck.......

In comparison with what I have seen others go through I believe I have led a charmed life.

I could reel off the multiple redundancies, the financial crises, the work stress levels, the minutiae of plans that were made and turned to s**t and events that are way beyond anything that I would disclose in a forum such as this.

What do they matter when friends of ours have been through or are going through neonatal deaths, a pregnancy that was non-viable through brittle bone disease, a suicide in the family, a child with cancer, partners with alcoholism, sudden death of a husband in his early forties and other equally traumatic and life changing experiences?

I am healthy, financially comfortable with a fantastic wife and two brilliant kids.

For sure, things could have gone better. Every day we roll the dice and sometimes we win and sometimes we lose. That is the difference between "odds" and "luck". Odds are that life will throw you some horrors.

But what right have I to do anything other than look at my life and consider myself to be incredibly fortunate? The horrors have been few and each time we have survived. The joys have been many and varied and each has led to yet more.

Generally I go with this approach - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoEezZD71sc

There's no such thing as luck, just st, rivers of st. Learn to swim and eat st, life will go easier.

Or buy a boat.
