I've seen this sign on MOD land and wondering what it actually means.
There's probably 4 dotted around a large mound of earth and these mounds are all the place where i walk with my dog.
I understand the sign probably means NO DIG but does the black background with the white star mean anything else?
Many thanks in advance.

And yes, it means "do not dig".

Screw the archaeology, I wouldn't want to dig anywhere that live ordnance has been used!

It's probably just where they buried some spare anthrax shells that they needed to dispose of a while back. Nothing to worry about....

scratchchin I was wondering about the significance of the Star of David symbol.

Perhaps the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch is buried there?

Dunno about the red spot though, by Jove.

From there up as far as Bramshott are various training areas.
I lived in Bramshott for a time. The sound of light artillery/tank(?) and automatic weapons fire on a Wednesday was a fairly regular early morning treat smile

Generally it is advisable to stick to the paths.
Military history as firing ranges go back to the mid 19th century, with very heavy use during both world wars.

I walk the dog all over the areas right up to Hankley Common where there is the Atlantic Wall reproduction and filming locations.
To be honest i find it fascinating watching the Military running around, they're always polite and quite often have a bit of banter.
A friend in Liss found a grenade (Cricket ball one possibly) whilst digging a pond out in the summer and had to call bomb disposal, so its not just one the ranges you may find something.

Note that the sign is directed towards training troops who may, in digging shell scrapes and fortifications, disturb the land, rather than directed at the public due to the risk of UXO.
