Little eye on the provinces - daft local news stories
Discussion
There used to be a great feature in FHM (is it still going? It was a good mag once and then got silly - or maybe I got old and grumpy...) called 'Little Eye On The Provinces' which was for people to send in utterly banal news stories from local papers.
Just seen this one which would be perfect!
Man falls asleep on bus

Even has the sad-face photo, holding his bus ticket, and he's blaming someone else (bus driver should have checked apparently). And he had all his shopping with him - including a power drill!
Anyone got any more?

I once saw a story about someone finding a hat - I put it on facebook a few years back will try and dig it out.
The picture of him with the ticket is the high point of that link. Both writer and photographer wondering what has happened in their life...
Absolutely! The picture of him with the ticket is the high point of that link. Both writer and photographer wondering what has happened in their life...

I should like very much to see the hat story.

The Echo are brilliant for these stories. And the photo of arms crossed looking grumpy. teecee said:

Steak and kidney pie 'destroyed' in cooking fire
That rather puts my bus man story in the shade!

I lived for a while in a small rural town which somehow managed to support 2 weekly papers, the front page splash in one the first week I was there was about a local girl who had lost her teddy.
I now live in an even smaller town where a bus being late makes the paper, complete with quotes from aggrieved pensioners. Top stories this week, there's going to be some roadworks, and a local man has passed his mechanics course.

If you are on Facebook I strongly suggest you follow the brilliant 'Angry People in Local Papers' page which collates these all to enjoy. and makes occasional references to the quality of the photos used, such as the aforementioned stolen car space point, the child with something broken looking sad, with their council mum in the background.
Follow angry people in local newspaper on Facebook
In fact it's not far off the " you're so council page "
E.g. Today's quote. Woman has smart meter fitted.
Gas engineer finds a gas leak in cellar and a fault in her cooker. Women complains to newspaper about being inconvenienced!!! Sorry no links, sat in my car waiting for a meeting.

I'm sure I remember that when we lived in Hanwell (West London) back in about 2001 I once saw a board for the local paper outside the newsagent proclaiming "Woman bakes cake in shape of Ealing church".
But I'm buggered if I can find any trace of the story online so maybe I imagined it because surely a scoop like that would have left an online trace.
