Not all the Cup series are switching to the new DFI Cup in 2017. Supercup and Carrera Cup Germany only I believe.

The 2017 RSR should be the new turbo engine with the gearbox moved forward but the exact details on that car are not confirmed yet.

I read that Porsche have applied for a technical waiver to allow the 911 RSR to compete with a more mid-engine weight distribution:

Wow (I stand corrected) - unprecedented for the FIA to break / flex homologation rules in such a way. Doesn't mention turbo power though. Would be great to see the 911 regain some ground as it was difficult to watch them compete at this years Le Mans...

As pointed out I was talking about the exemption granted for the 2017 RSR, not the 960 which isn't going to coming for a while I suspect. Edited your above post as well for accuracy as I somewhat struggle to see a 911 as a car with the gearbox/engine placement reversed as the RSR seems likely to be...

BoP is a bigger issue than engine type or layout imo. If the ACO (intentionally or otherwise) makes a complete balls up of the adjustments like this year that hugely favoured the Ford GT, a new car isn't going to change anything. the old RSR was still good enough to win the Pro GT division of WEC last year after all.

moose, I have no idea to be honest if you went to Porsche GB and asked to buy a cup whether you'd get the old one. One would have thought so as you couldn't use the DFI cup here next year though....
