.. in Central London admittedly but 20mph in Lower Thames Street for Christ's sake. The SPEC is now taxing at the rate of £4K per day according to my local radio

One of the BiB on here said 20mph limits were not enforceable in a recent thread. Sounds like they must be?

SPECS is time/distance based, though, so should be easy to prove an accurate "reading", as opposed to a laser/radar based device...

Ist on page 7 of "Daily Express" (reporters: Rachel Porter und Tony Brooks)

Ist this the sneakiest speed trap in Britain?

- und there are pictures.

article said:

a 300 yard stretch of dual carriageway was identified as the country's sneakiest und most lucrative speed trap

In just 3 weeks the cameras have netted £84k in fines.

Overlooking a busy street the cameras are almost hidden as is at least one of the signs indicating the speed limit ist 20 mph

The speed trap ist snaring 70 drivers per day und has potential to earn £1.5 million this year alone.

The article says that the scams are positionedhigh above the driver's eyeline und are too small to see und that

article said:

Warning signs are also obscured by bus stops (und there ist a photo to prove this)

There ist also a photo which shows a 30 mph speed limit/scam warn on one side of road und the 20 mph (100 yards) on other side of road a few yards apart... ...ist most confusing to any road user...

The London Safety Prats deny a cynical attempt to trick people into "speeding" on dual carriageway which drops 30 to 20 mph for 300 yards - und claim this ist to enforce a tempo for construction site...which ist not very evident from photo in this paper

Our own MMC ist quoted;

MMC in Daily Express said:

Specs systems are licence to print money. There can be no other reason to install them.

The Pratnership has created a very dangerous situation. If drivers know they are going to get falshed for 21 mph - then they will not dare lift eyes from speedo

If I were the construction worker I would be very worried because none of the drivers can really be expected to keep eyes on road. This will cost more lives than it saves

for 300 yards one will be glued to speedo in case it blips by 1 mph....

Und the article finishes by referring to Dick's admission that the scams are not really saving lives...

I shall continue mit research into my pills ...

The odd thing about this one is that the first camera is placed directly above the entry to the 20 mph limit looking into the preceeding 30 mph limit. The second camera is before the end of the 20 mph limit to get a second reading.

So...these specs are actually recording your car while you are in a 30 mph AND the 20 mph.

So how can this be used to prosecute for speeding in a 20 mph limit when for some of that time you would be in an area with a higher speed limit?

Seems like a bit of a con to me, although I'm ready to be corrected by those with more knowledge of this than me.....
