Is it normal that a wheelbox has some vertical play?

The wiper rack is loose now and I want to start from the beginning and put everything back again to be absolutely sure everything functions as it should.

How does one determine if a wiper wheel box is ok? They seem to turn without resistance....

My wiper boxes had a plastic spacer bonded to the barrel which was then bonded to the back of the grp housing.

Here is a picture of an old wiper box I am replacing with the black plastic spacer.

So I have bought new wiper boxes and have a black plastic spacer which I am going to cut the splayed end off. I will then reassemble the unit and see if the barrel nut will provide enough pressure to keep the mechanism rigid and secure. If not I will bond the spacer as before.

I think TVR did the same when i look at the spacers.... :-)

Washed the boxes out. The one that seemed to be the best now turns as if its bearing is out. The other one spins freely. Ordered 2 at Leacy's. Even shipment is free to the Netherlands! So...MOT has to wait a bit longer.....
