Hi,

Posted one of these a while back, but still searching.

Looking for a good compact where I can switch into manual mode and have some fun. Pricing around the 300ukp mark.

I've been looking at the Sony DSC-W7 which looks good.

Any other thoughts? Is the Canon A95 worth consideration? Prefer the Sony's looks TBH...

How about a Canon S60 at £279 ???

All the manual controls you could ever want and many more you are far less likely to need in a sturdy metal body with a razor sharp lens.

I'm biased - I have an S40 which I've used to take 25000 images; most of them in aperture priority or full manual. Lovely bit of kit.

FZ20 looks amazing, bit like the Sony V3, but probably to o big and bulky for me.

Hadn't spied the S60/S70, looks good although video performance is a bit duff apparently. What's the difference between the Canon S/A ranges?

I've got an FZ20 - a bit noisy above ISO200 in poor light, but the rest of the time its superb.

Samples here www.sailpics.co.uk/gallery/1063103
plenty of talk here http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1033

I've also just added an Olympus WCON-08B to it to reduce it from 36mm to 28.8mm - but it does go all the way to 432mm at f2.8
